We took Alex for his two week check up. He weighs 9 pounds, 4 ounces, and he is doing very well. He has had a busy week. We went to see The Incredibles last week, and this week we went to see Disney on Ice. Alex enjoyed both events so much he slept the entire time. The kid loves his sleep. He is starting to be more active when he is awake. He likes to grin and giggle as he is passing gas. I suppose he gets that after his mother.
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Don’t forget to check out all the pictures of Alex. If you need the password, please e-mail passwords@davidpruitt.com, and we will get you hooked up.
As most of you know I am breast feeding and though things started off rocky we are well on our way now to figuring this thing out! Alex is doing much better about latching on and we have a system down. Eat on one side, change diaper, eat on the other. Our plan was going along just peachy last night until the diaper change. It started out fine, but things went a little nuts as soon as I pulled his diaper off. I had learned earlier in the day from a friend that you should never remove the diaper completely until you are ready to put the new one on. So being the swift thinking new mom that I am, I tucked the front of the dirty diaper up under Alex’s butt so if he poo’d it would be on the diaper and not on the changing table. Little did I know that babies, no matter how small and cute can shoot poo across the room. Little, adorable, lovable, cuddly Alex hunched up his legs like a frog and poo’d for all he was worth. It literally shot across the room. It came out in two quick spurts. I stood there stunned. I had been pee’d on, but never poo’d on like that. I was even more shocked when he rolled over towards me and pee’d all over my new robe! It was like he was aiming right for me. After the shock I quickly started assessing the situation and started damage control. I reached for a wipe only to find that one of his targets had the been the OPEN container. The box and all the wipes in the box were covered in baby poo. Luckily I had another container in the drawer of the changer so I grabbed it and started cleaning up. I started with the baby and quickly got him a new diaper, which he quickly began filling up again! Then I put him in the crib and started cleaning up the rest of the mess. He managed to get poo on the wall, carpet, changing table and who knows what else that I missed at 3am. So keep this story in mind next time you are changing a helpless little baby. Poo can fly!
Thanks to these new fandangled camera phones, I am able to snap cool pictures even when I don’t have my camera handy. Case in point: Alex had his first doctors appointment on Monday morning. His pediatrician, Dr. Paroulo, wanted to check his bilirubin to make sure it was coming down. While waiting for the test, I noticed that Alex was making a sign I see quite a lot on MTV. I think its some kind of gangsta sign or something. Anyway, I thought it was pretty funny, so I snapped a quick shot with my phone. Alex is certainly growing. He was back up to his birth weight, and is eating regularly from his unlimited milk source. I will try and take more photos this weekend and post to the web site, and expect plenty more of goofy pictures coming to a web site near you.
We survived another night. Last night, we only fed three times, and he slept through most of it. We had to wake him each time just to make sure he is ate. Momma didn’t think about it, and had beans a few nights ago so Alex is paying for it now. He’s been really gassy and fussy, but those Mylacon drops help a bunch for gas. He is certainly his mothers son now. :)
