Weekend Summary

Wet Alex Pruitt

This is a wet Alex. I gave him a bath yesterday morning. I put him to bed Friday night, kissed his head, and man did that boy stink. I am curious.. how often do you bathe your children? I used to think once a week was sufficient for children that young, but I am starting to reconsider. Seriously, though, how often?

This weekend was pretty rough. My mother was in the hospital last week getting a two day session of chemotherapy followed up by surgery where they insert beads filled with chemo directly into tumors in her liver. The result is that as the beads dissolve, the chemo will eat away at the tumor. As you can imagine she was sick from the treatment, and worst of all I could not be there with her — the weather in Oklahoma has been horrible. Thankfully my sister lives in Tulsa, and she has been spending time with mom during this rough time. I have an amazing family!

The weather in general has been brutal. Audrey and I stayed home a couple days last week from work, because it was too icy here in Texas to drive anywhere. Luckily I am able to work from home, so I wasn’t exactly stuck with nothing to do. I had an opportunity to post on the a href=”http://photos.clickprintmedia.com/”>Digital Photo Blog an article on how I made my homemade light box. I had a couple requests for instructions, so I think you will enjoy that.

Heatmap of DavidPruitt.comI was also able to spend some time on my web site. I didn’t really do anything noticeable on the front end — the stuff you see, but I was able to spend some time analyzing user clicks and patterns. From the heat map (you can click on the image to see the full size heat map), I can think of reworking the archive and search tools on the web site as no one uses them. The heat map just shows where users are clicking the most — the hotter the color, the more clicks. I appreciate all your feedback on the photo galleries, and I will continue to ask for feedback as I try to improve things. Thank you.

This week is shaping up to be a pretty busy week. My company, is7, is working on a new web site for Paula White Ministries, and is slated for release on February 1. We just published Jentezen Franklin’s web site, and I am amazed at the amount of traffic it is getting. I have a lot to do before the end of the week. I am taking some time to go visit my mother at the end of the week, so I need to make sure things are all taken care of at work before I leave.

I’ve been asking Alex if he wants to visit Grandma. On Saturday morning, I had a conversation with Alex about visiting Grandma, and it went something like this.

I asked, “Alex, are you ready to go visit Grandma?” He looked at the television, and then looked back at me, “She has a guitar!” He was referring to an old guitar my dad had in his closet. “Yes, Alex, she has a guitar.”

“A Wagon!” I thought for a moment. “Yes, Alex, she has a wagon, too.” Alex was referring to a small plastic wagon she uses to store some toys for him. The look of excitement on his face was hysterical. He has so much expression when he gets excited. The boy never forgets a think, either. It’s pretty cool.

I hope everything is going well where ever you are.

The Weekend Buzz

Alex in the DryerThe weather kept us inside most of the weekend. We decided to go to church on Saturday night, so we wouldn’t have to worry about getting out on Sunday. It has rained a lot today, and quickly turned to ice this evening. The low tonight is suppose to be 27 with the high tomorrow getting up to around 28 and then 19 tomorrow night. As you can see I probably won’t be leaving the house any time soon. Audrey was pretty busy today. She was catching up on laundry when she took this photo of Alex on my cell phone. Alex got curious, and crawled in the dryer to play. We also built a big train track today with the GeoTrax, and watched Cars. It was a pretty good day for Alex.

I also had a chance to work with a new hobby in which I’ve been gaining intetested — photography. Audrey and I built a homemade light box out of a cardboard box, tissue paper and poster board. Okay, Audrey mainly was the builder, but I supervised. One of my first tests was the alarm clock. It turned out pretty well. I am learning a lot about light temperatures. :) Anyway, I have been collaborating with a few other people online to create a blog for Digital Photography. There are a few of you out there that enjoy photography, too, so if you’d like to be a part of this web site please let me know as I’d love to have you post your learnings, knowledge and photos on the blog.

The photo gallery results are in — it looks like I am going to keep the old one, and scrap the new. Most people actually perfer the original. That will save me some time.. thank you.

I hope you stay warm where ever you are.

Still Loving Apple

Apple iPhoneIt looks like Apple did it again! Tuesday’s annoucement at MacWorld 2007 sent shock waves, and caused many Apple Geeks to drool. I know I did. I couldn’t wait to get home from work, so I could watch the Keynote. As many of your know by now, Apple released a couple of big products — Apple TV and iPhone. Both, I believe, will be huge successes, but mostly I was glad that Apple is finally going to bring true Video on Demand to the masses. It’s something cable companies have been talking about for years, but Apple is going to finally be the ones to bring it. Their innovation of AppleTV aligns perfectly with where the market is headed. Imagin being able to sit in front of your TV and with the remote find any movie you want and play it right then. With Apple and perhaps a partnership with a company like AT&T, they can most certainly make it happen. They are already in an exclusive relationship with Cingular/AT&T with iPhone. It’s going to be exciting.

With regards to iPhone, I’ve been holding on to my Palm Treo 650 for a few years now, and this summer will be a good time to upgrade. Being able to hold an small computer running OS X in the palm of my hand is kind of exciting. If you haven’t seen the phone, and all its cool features you should go check it out.

Finally, those of you who are still clinging to your old, broken down Windows machine I say this: Come over to the good side. It’s really not that bad. Replace your control key with an Apple key, and you will be so glad to be rid of viruses, endless drivers, nagging ‘do you want to update now’ screens. Remember, it’s not too late.
