2 Week Weight In

Progress after 2 Weeks on Weight Watchers
I have been on Weight Watchers 2 weeks as of Thursday the 12th. I was out on Jury Duty all week, so I wasn’t able to weigh until Friday. I weighed at the Allergy Doctor (where I do all my weigh-ins) and I weighed 306. That means I lost another 6 pounds, and a total of 13 pounds. It’s been pretty awesome, really. With only 13 pounds (and still over 300 pounds), I already have more energy. Audrey have lost 5 pounds total, and she is doing great! We have started an excerise program, too. Did I mention I am sore? Yeah..

The weekend was busy. We spent the day at a car dealership on Saturday, and Sunday was spent cleaning out the garage. Thanks to Audrey, the garage is now spotless!! Thank you, honey!! I spent most the day moving a hundred or so bricks from the corner of the garage to the back yard to prepare for a new patio.

Alex Pruitt with SunglassesI know I am switching gears, but let me go back to Saturday. So, we’ve been talking about trading in the BMW for something newer. As most of you know, I like to negotiate which is why we spent most of the day at the car dealership. While we were there, Alex was an angel. We were at the dealership about 5 hours total. While we were there, Alex ran around the showroom ‘filling up the cars with gas’. He grabbed my sun glasses, and walked to each car opening each gas lid and acting like he was putting gas in the car. He’s quite a kid. Click on the image to left to see a larger version of that photo.

Earlier in the week, Audrey and I bought a couple bicycles. We also bought a little seat for Alex that fits right over the tire behind me. Since it was in the mid-70’s today, we decided to go for a bike ride. We took off, and rode all over our subdivision. We took the trails through the woods and around the lake — it was a great day to ride.

That’s it for now. I hope you have a great week!

A Killer Week

It’s been a difficult week. On Monday at 8:20 a.m., I reported to the Denton County Courthouse on a Jury Summons. When I reported, I was put into a room with 305 other people. A women told us that out of 305 people called, they would need 279 to go on to further selection, but the 24 lucky individuals would be excused. A judge came forward and asked for the normal excemptions: college students, senior citizens, those caring for the invalid, etc. At that time, they took the remaining people and randomly drew to see which court each of us would be reporting to. There are 20 courts all over Denton County, so I had the possibility to drive as far as Sanger to report again on a Jury Summons.

Once selection was over, I was on the first list called. I was one of 56 people who would report to the third floor, the 367th District Court of Denton County. Lucky for me, I only had to go up one floor and report immediately for further selection. Some of the folks in the room would have to wait until 1:30p.m. and report to the Sanger court.

When I arrived on the third floor and waited for about 30 minutes were were all brought into the court, where the Voir Dire wikipedia took place. This, I came to find out, was just law jargon for narrowing down of the jury pool. :) I sat on the front row, and didn’t really have a chance to speak. They asked us if we knew anyone who has been convicted of a felony, if anyone in our family had been killed, etc. I think I said three words during the whole selection process. The Voir Dire took about 5 hours. It was painful. Finally, when the dust settled, I was selected as one of the 12 jurors.

When we returned from lunch, the judge read the charge. The defendant was charged with the offense of murder in the first degree. There would be three parts to the case - the Voir Dire (which we already did), the trial to find guilt or innocence and the punishment phase. I didn’t know that Texas is one of very few states where the jury decides the sentence. The minimum punishment allowed in this case, if the defendant was found guilt, was probation. The maximum punishment was life in prison and a fine.

The judged jumped right in at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, and the state began with their opening statement. We spent the rest of Monday and Tuesday hearing the prosecution. On Wednesday, the defense began their case, and we deliberated on Wednesday at around 4:00 p.m. It took approximately 19 minutes for 12 of us to find the defendant guilt of murder. I was the foreman of the jury, so it was my job to deliver the verdict. On Thursday, we began the punishment stage of the case. It was a very emotional day as they called the mother and fiance of the victim. As well, they called the defendant’s mother, sister, etc. There was a lot of crying, but by the end of the day, both sides rested and closed and we were sent to deliberate again. This time, it took almost 30 minutes for us to return the verdict: Life in prison with a $5,000 fine. The convicted would have the opportunity for parole when he is 67 if he shows good behavior.

It was an emotionally draining week. Between the crime screen photos, autopsy photos, crime scene teams’ testimony, testimony of a Texas Ranger who is an expert in blood splatter and the forensic pathologists, I now know more than I would ever need to know about what research is done to find out what really happens on a murder scene. It was gruesome, and I hope I never have to go through that again.

I hope your week faired better.

Easter Weekend

Easter 2007Since Audrey had Good Friday off from work, we loaded up the car and headed up to Oklahoma for an extended weekend visit. I had just transfered a few new movies to the iPod, so Alex was set for a 5 hour car ride. We got into town on Friday evening in time for dinner. We went to Murphy’s Steakhouse, which was a train wreck for Audrey and I being on Weight Watchers. We ate a light breakfast and a very light lunch, so we were prepared to take a hit to our points at dinner. We ate smaller portions, and left satisfied. As far as Weight Watchers, it was a challenging weekend. That’s all I will say about that.

The rest of the weekend was uneventful. We just visited with family, and played some cards. Since we got back from vacation, my mother and Jason have been dying for a rematch of Liverpool Rummy. We played a few games — Merle won one game, and I won the other. It was good times had by all.

On Easter Day, we had our traditional family dinner. Mom fixed baked turkey and the rest of the family pitched in and brought a dish. It was yummy. After Alex had a nap, we did our Easter Egg hunt. Alex just couldn’t believe the Easter bunny would leave so many egg laying around. He did a great job and found them all. Don’t forget to visit the photo section to see all the weekend fun!

Thank ya Easter Bunny, Bak, Bak

Happy Good Friday! Let’s not forget what Good Friday is all about. Amen.

I hope you have some great weekend plans, and that they hopefully include time spent with your family. Our plans include a turkey, baked beans and deviled eggs.. mmmm.. I can’t wait for that.

Weight Watchers hasn’t been too bad. Audrey and I weighed in on Wednesday. I lost 8 pounds and Audrey lost 1.6 pounds. I have to admit, it’s not been too bad. Since we’ve increased the amount of protein and fiber, we’re rarely hungry. The only problem I am having is drinking all the water. It’s suggested to drink 6 glasses a day. As many of you know, I don’t really like the taste of water (water doesn’t even have a flavor!!), so it makes it hard to drink a lot of it.

And what can I say about Alex that the photos don’t already say? He’s a mess. He likes attention just like his mother. He loves to show off, too. You know that comes from his mother as well. And don’t even think about stepping out of line in the morning — the kid is a BEAR in the morning. The other day, I told him I needed to change his diaper. He told me, “No, daddy, my diapers okay on my pee-pee and butt!” What can you say to that? I got a good laugh out of that one.

Last weekend, we bought him a little mower that blows bubbles as you push it. On Sunday morning, before church, I mowed the back yard. In typical fashion, Alex wanted to help me, so he mows the yard starting on the opposite side. Since it was nice and sunny outside, I decided to take off my shirt. He ran over to Audrey, who was sitting on the back patio watching, and asked her to take off his shirt. As I was moving, I looked behind me and noticed Alex moving about 5 paces behind me with his shirt off. I wish I could have gotten pictures as it was really funny. I am sure of one thing — the boy does not have gender confusion. He loves tools, dinosaurs and lawn equipment. He would fit right in with the Hank Hill family.

Have a great weekend, and a super-duper Easter! We love you all!!
