Holiday Update

Tis the season to drive around and find a parking space. It’s amazing how many people wait until the last minute to do their Christmas shopping. It’s been a long weekend, but we have gotten a lot done. First, we went and picked up the our holiday photos. They turned out pretty well this year except that my eye looks crossed. Are my eyes really that crossed? Don’t answer that.

I put the crib together with the help of Lowe’s. I could have swore I put all those screws together 3 years ago when we put it together for Alex. Someone must have broke into our house and stole the screws. After some cursing, I finally got it all together — let’s just hope it holds the weight of the baby.

Yesterday, we ventured to the outlet mall to pick up some gifts — that was a fun pile of cars to weave through. The good news is that we returned with no dents in the car and no citations from our friendly cops.

Finally, today we did nothing — and it was great. We’re getting ready to meet some friends for dinner, so I can’t rattle on too much. One thing I did want to post was our holiday photos. I have posted them below. If you click on the picture, you can see a larger version.

If I don’t post again before Christmas, please have a safe and wonderful Christmas.

Cool Product: VUDU

For those of you who read me blog regularly, I want to give a plug to a great product. Before I begin, let me give you a little history. A friend of mine, Patrick Cosson was the Director of Marketing for Creative Labs, Inc. in the late 90’s, and I had the privilege of working for him. What a lot of people don’t realize is that Patrick spent a lot of time mentoring me, and I learned a lot from working under Patrick for 4 years. When Patrick left Creative Labs and began working at AOL, I went with him. Patrick was not only the best manager I’ve ever had, but he’s also a really great friend. Patrick and I lost contact for a while when I moved back to Dallas from San Francisco.

VUDU logoLast April, I was contacted by my dear friend Patrick. He has been working as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for a company called VUDU (formerly named Marquee) on an Internet Appliance. He couldn’t really tell me a lot of details because of non-disclosure, but asked if I would like to participate in a beta of their product. I signed all the necessary confidentiality paperwork, and received my product called a VUDU. It was an early beta, which was nothing more than a black box with a remote. All the magic happened, however, when you plugged it into your HD television and a network connection. The VUDU is an Internet appliance that delivers content through the internet — that’s the simple description. I’ve been on their beta program for about 6 months. They have been adding content and upgrading software; sometimes daily. The next phase of the beta program allowed me to obtain a production model of the VUDU from their store at vudu.com . The finished product is a very slick looking product, exactly what I would expect from a company that employs Patrick Cosson.

When I connected the new model, I noticed a free gift to all VUDU customers — an HD version of the Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy. The picture quality is amazing. The coolest thing of all is that you can browse a library of over 50,000 titles (more being added weekly), and begin watching them immediately. This is true Video On Demand. The pricing structure is pretty much dominated by the studios — rentals are $3.99 or less and you can buy movies from $9.99 and up. The HD content appears to be a little more expensive, but the quality is amazing.

I urge you to visit vudu.com , and consider picking one up for a Christmas gift.

Time for Catch Up

Long time, no talk, my fellow web residents. A lot has happened since I last sat down and typed up something on my web site. Let me go back to October, and work my way forward. I will try to stay focused, and bring you up to speed.

Around the middle of October, some friends of ours invited us to Six Flags for their big Fright Fest. The entire park was dressed in the spirit of Halloween with ghosts and goblins roaming the park. For those who don’t know, Alex loves being scared. While most kids cry when someone jumps from behind a corner and scares them, Alex thinks its a load of fun. He enjoyed all of the scary things at the park except the really tall werewolf that must have been on stilts, because the guy was at least 10 feet tall. While at the park, Alex and I rode some rides, including some roller coasters. They were smaller coasters for kids, but had enough rise and fall for Alex to really enjoy it. I wish I were as brave as Alex when I was that young. He is fearless — there isn’t really much that frightens him.

Also in October, I attended the Men’s Conference at our church, Celebration Covenant Church. image It was a weekend filled with teaching, learning and playing. It started on Friday night with some wonderful BBQ, and ended with some pretty cool games like Jousting, Air-Sumo wrestling and some gauntlet races. On Saturday, we arrived early for breakfast, then another afternoon of learning. It was pretty awesome. I learned some great skills when it comes to leading my family — Good stuff.

Alex Pruitt 3 year old birthday photoNovember brought some exciting fun — Alex’s birthday. This year, we invited the Little Elm Fire Department to Alex’s 3rd birthday party. They showed up with a big ladder truck and an Ambulance. While all the women ogled over the firemen, the kids played on the trucks. After the presentation, we invited the firemen in for some hamburgers and hot dogs. It was a good day — I scored points with the kids and the women. It was a good time. For Thanksgiving, Audrey, Alex and I traveled to Oklahoma, and spent a week with our family. While Audrey’s family is doing well my mother’s health is continuing to decline. She stopped working several weeks ago, and Cheryl and I called in hospice last week. Soon, she will be too weak to even get out of bed. She still will not talk about her cancer, and how she is truly doing. I feel as though she puts on a show for me while I am visiting, because she seems so tired all the time. Please pray for my mother.

This weekend, we took our holiday photos as well as Alex’s birthday photos. Those will be available in about 10 days. It took us a while to get Alex to smile for the camera. He has reached an age where he knows what we want him to do, but he chooses not to cooperate — he probably gets that from his mother. :)

Finally, Andrew Karl, or Andy, is doing very well. He is coming up on 33 weeks, and everything has been going very well. We’re still planning on the induction on January 15th — the date that Audrey and I started dating almost 17 years ago. On Tuesday, we have to take Alex for this 3 year old wellness visit. He will be getting some shots, so wish me luck trying to convince him it’s not going to hurt.

I hope all is well with you and yours. We’re thinking of all of you this holiday season. Have a wonderfully well and blessed time, and remember to spend plenty of time with your family.
