Andrew’s Hospital Photos

It’s been a few days since I updated everyone, so I thought I would log in this morning and post an update.

We had Andrew’s blood tested again on Monday. Originally before leaving the hospital, Andrew’s blood count was 18.5 mg/dl (Bilirubin is measured in milligrams per deciliter of blood). A couple days on the grow light brought his blood down to 15.5 mg/dl, but that was still a little high. We kept Andrew on the grow lights over the weekend, and we’re happy to say that as of Monday he was at 13 mg/dl. This is good, and we can take him off the grow lights. Yay!!

When I left for work this morning, Mommy and Andrew were cuddled up together getting some sleep. We’re really lucky with Andrew. He wakes every 2-3 hours for feeding, but other than that he sleeps. I can honestly say that since we’ve been home I have not been awaken by crying. [knock on wood]

To the right are the photos the hospital took before we left. We didn’t really think about it, but it probably wasn’t a good idea to put that blanket behind him. Andrew looks like he has Dumbo ears.

Alex and I to Cabela’s

First, Andrew’s bilirubin numbers were still a little high, so we have one more day on the grow lights. The doctor is not concerned,b ut would like another day on the lights just to drop the numbers a bit more. We will get another blood test in the morning, and I will update you. The reason I am writing this evening is to tell you about Alex’s adventure to Fort Worth on Saturday.

Alex and I spent an afternoon in Fort Worth at Cabela’s *. There is nowhere on earth that has more testosterone per square foot than Cabela’s. I’ve been to the Bass Pro shop before, but Cabela’s is much better. Alex and I ate some lunch in the cafe, browsed Cabela’s large selection of guns, and wandered around the property to see all the animals. One particular scene grabbed Alex’s attention — the lions fighting off the hyena’s. It was a still right out of Lion King. The lions had just taken down a big animals and were starting to eat when a couple hyena’s had come by to interrupt their dinner. It was really neat.

Later tonight, I will post some new photos of Andrew. I just downloaded the ones that the hospital took.

Alex enjoyed the large animal exhibits   This was a scene right out of Lion King   The lions looked hungry   Look closely and you can see the bees all over the bear as he tries to get the hive

Bring in the Grow Light

Andrew’s bilirubin test came back. His levels were pretty high, so they sent us home with a glow light. Andrew didn’t mind it at first, but I think he is getting tired of it now. The doctor told us to keep him in the light when we’re not feeding or changing him. It’s been tough on all of us, because we can not hold him as much as we would like to. We go to the hospital this morning to have another blood test done. Audrey and I hope that things will be back to normal.

In other news, Alex is a great big brother. When Alex wakes, the first thing he asks about is baby brother. He wants to take him downstairs with him to play. We have to keep reminding Alex that it will be a while before Andrew can play. Alex also wants to give Andrew toys to play with. We’ve had to show Alex the kinds of toys he can give to Andrew. Alex is amazingly gentle with Andrew, and loves rubbing his head and kissing him. I must savor these moments, because I know one day they will be at each others throats. :)

I will update the site when we have the test results.

Andrew is home

After a couple days of recovery in the hospital, Andrew and Audrey got to come home on Wednesday afternoon — not before Mommy and Daddy got one more great meal, though :) With some wonderful lamb and baked potatoes in our belly, we loaded up our stuff and headed home. Audrey was definitely ready to come home, and Andrew.. well, he just sleeps all the time.

This morning, we got up early and went to the doctor. Andrew has the same problem Alex had, a high bilirubin count making a little jaundiced. The doctor took a blood sample this morning, and we’ll get more details on that later. He will probably need a glow light, or may have to be admitted back to the hospital for a follow up.

Below are some more photos taken yesterday. More photos later..
