My day began at 5:30 a.m. when I was waken by a nurse coming into the room to get vitals. Audrey didn’t get much sleep, so she was already up. Her lower back was starting to hurt, so she had to sit up in the bed. The contractions got stronger as the morning passed, and Audrey requested an epidural at 6:30 a.m. The hospital brought my breakfast, which was really good — scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, french toast and milk — yum!

Once the epidural was in, I could still see the contractions on the monitor which where getting stronger by the minute. Because of the drugs, Audrey stopped complaining about the pain. Around 10:30 a.m., Audrey told me she felt like she needed to start pushing, so we called the nurse. The nurse checked, and she was 100% effaced and ready to deliver. The LD nurse called Dr. Bailey, and she was in route.

Dr. Baily came into the room, got dressed and Audrey started pushing at 11:10 a.m. It took Audrey 4 sets of pushes, and Andrew was delivered. Audrey is amazing — less than 20 minutes of labor. Andrew Karl was born at 11:24 a.m. He was 7 lbs, 8 oz and 19.5″ long.

Audrey will stay the night tonight and tomorrow, and will get to go home on Wednesday. I will post more information soon.
