Was ‘Sappening

I think the term “April showers bring May flowers” came a little late this year. We’ve already gotten 23.5 inches of rain this year, which is about 5 1/2 inches more than normal. The good news is that it brought us out of the drought, and is helping to keep the temperature down. I hope it continues to rain like this all summer as my yard has never looked better.

Armageddon, Oil and TerrorIf your looking for some interesting reading material, I would suggest Armageddon, Oil and Terror. This was a book co-authored by the father of the president of my company. Our companies president, Dr. Walvoord, gave all of us a copy, and it’s pretty interesting stuff. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, Dr. John F. Walvoord was the president of Dallas Theological Seminary for 34 years, and is known to be a leading interpreter of Bible prophecy. My team built the web site to promote and sell the book. You can visit the web site by going to ProphecyHotline.com image. I have also created a Podcast of interviews about the book, which you can find on iTunes image. I update the Podcast every Thursday.

Okay, enough about work, and my reading recommendations. I am sure your here to hear about Alex, anyway. Let me share with you some of the Alex-funnies that have happened lately:

  • We were visiting Grandma in Oklahoma. We were out somewhere, and Alex had an accident. When I changed him I just left him in his pull-ups because we were going right back to Grandma’s house. As we were getting out of the truck at Grandma’s several young, cute girls were coming out of the apartment next to Grandma’s apartment. As Alex walked by them, he looked up at them, smiled and said, “I don’t have any pants on.” — Classic Pruitt moment.
  • We were in Wal-mart, and I was looking at windshield wiper blades. I was trying to look up what size blade I needed. I looked through the book, and selected 20″ blades. I set them in the cart, and Alex looked at it, put a concerned look on his face, and said very seriously, “I don’t think thats big enough Daddy!” I could not stop laughing, because he was saying it so seriously.
  • We were having dinner at Chili’s. The waiter came to take our order, and Audrey ordered a half a sandwich and salad, I ordered the chicken tacos. The waiter looked at Alex, and asked, “What would you like?” to which Alex seriously replied, “Macaroni and Poop.” Audrey and I crawled under the table.
  • I woke early one morning, and took Alex downstairs to get him breakfast. After breakfast I told Alex to come to me so I can change his pull-up. He said, “Daddy I no pee-pee or poo-poo in my hool-up!”

He continues to bring so much joy to Audrey and I. It’s so amazing to see him grow and learn. The things he says and does, and the way he figures things out. The boy amazes us at how well he knows his way around. He can tell you when a fire station is coming, and how to get to the fire station with the helicopter (Care Flight). It’s pretty cool. I will try to get some new photos of Alex to share soon.

The weight loss is still going well. I have lost 32 pounds at of last Wednesday, and Audrey is down 15 pounds. My goal will take me into next summer, but hopefully Audrey will reach her goal by early next year. It’s been slow going, but the bike riding and other exercises we’re doing is helping a lot.

Willie Graduates!Last weekend we drove to Oklahoma to celebrate Willie’s high school graduation. It’s hard to imagine that Willie’s graduated. When I met Audrey, Willie was as old as Alex is now. That makes me feel old. Willie graduated on Friday night. I was told by my lovely wife that I had to go to the ceremony. She informed me that Willie went to my high school graduation (ha, he was 2!) and that I had to attend his. However, I graduated in a class of 17, and Willie’s class size is 500 students! It took 2 hours just to have them all walk across the stage, and I could only imagine that it looked like herding cattle. Actually, I am only kidding. I wanted to go to share this special time with Willie. We all met for dinner, and then my plans were changed when my wife told me that Alex wouldn’t be able to sit through the entire ceremony, and that I should just take him home. So, Willie, if you are reading this, I really am sorry I missed it. You know I am proud of you, even though your not going to a good college (Go Pokes! image) [big smile] Even though Willie isn’t going to OSU, I am glad he made a great decision to buy a MacBook Pro as a computer to take to college. Now, I won’t have to worry about support calls at all hours of the day. Way to go!!

Well, it’s time to go get some yard work done. I have to mow the yard, edge and do all the normal, fun, homeowner stuff. Remember, if you want to know when I update my site, just subscribe, and you will receive e-mail notification that the site has been updated. It’s a useful tool, isn’t it Cymberly? :)

Take care all!

Weekend Summary

Wet Alex Pruitt

This is a wet Alex. I gave him a bath yesterday morning. I put him to bed Friday night, kissed his head, and man did that boy stink. I am curious.. how often do you bathe your children? I used to think once a week was sufficient for children that young, but I am starting to reconsider. Seriously, though, how often?

This weekend was pretty rough. My mother was in the hospital last week getting a two day session of chemotherapy followed up by surgery where they insert beads filled with chemo directly into tumors in her liver. The result is that as the beads dissolve, the chemo will eat away at the tumor. As you can imagine she was sick from the treatment, and worst of all I could not be there with her — the weather in Oklahoma has been horrible. Thankfully my sister lives in Tulsa, and she has been spending time with mom during this rough time. I have an amazing family!

The weather in general has been brutal. Audrey and I stayed home a couple days last week from work, because it was too icy here in Texas to drive anywhere. Luckily I am able to work from home, so I wasn’t exactly stuck with nothing to do. I had an opportunity to post on the a href=”http://photos.clickprintmedia.com/”>Digital Photo Blog an article on how I made my homemade light box. I had a couple requests for instructions, so I think you will enjoy that.

Heatmap of DavidPruitt.comI was also able to spend some time on my web site. I didn’t really do anything noticeable on the front end — the stuff you see, but I was able to spend some time analyzing user clicks and patterns. From the heat map (you can click on the image to see the full size heat map), I can think of reworking the archive and search tools on the web site as no one uses them. The heat map just shows where users are clicking the most — the hotter the color, the more clicks. I appreciate all your feedback on the photo galleries, and I will continue to ask for feedback as I try to improve things. Thank you.

This week is shaping up to be a pretty busy week. My company, is7, is working on a new web site for Paula White Ministries, and is slated for release on February 1. We just published Jentezen Franklin’s web site, and I am amazed at the amount of traffic it is getting. I have a lot to do before the end of the week. I am taking some time to go visit my mother at the end of the week, so I need to make sure things are all taken care of at work before I leave.

I’ve been asking Alex if he wants to visit Grandma. On Saturday morning, I had a conversation with Alex about visiting Grandma, and it went something like this.

I asked, “Alex, are you ready to go visit Grandma?” He looked at the television, and then looked back at me, “She has a guitar!” He was referring to an old guitar my dad had in his closet. “Yes, Alex, she has a guitar.”

“A Wagon!” I thought for a moment. “Yes, Alex, she has a wagon, too.” Alex was referring to a small plastic wagon she uses to store some toys for him. The look of excitement on his face was hysterical. He has so much expression when he gets excited. The boy never forgets a think, either. It’s pretty cool.

I hope everything is going well where ever you are.

Arg, Matey!

Pirate BillInternational Talk Like a Pirate Day was a big success. A co-worker went all out, and dressed the part. He even had a earring and a parrot to go on his shoulder. It was pretty funny for the first hour of the work day, but quickly went downhill. For lunch, we felt it appropriate to eat at Red Lobster. We got quite a few stares, but surprisingly there were a couple people that knew it was International Talk Like a Pirate Day. If you are so inclined, you can even take this quiz to find out your pirate name. Ahoy Meharty!

My Birthday

Alex Drinks a Mexian CokeAnother birthday came and went. I only received a hand full of happy birthday’s, which is surprising because its not exactly easy to forget my birthday these days. There are a close few who remembered, and of those Alex was there to celebrate with me. We picked up some mexican food from a local taqueria, and had a quiet evening at home. Alex snuck a drink of my Mexican Coke’s when I turned away. I thought it looked so funny I had him pose for me while I took his picture. I am proud to say that he has his Daddy’s sense of humor.

The last couple of days have been pretty peaceful. Work has calmed down a bit after we transitioned work back over to one of our larger clients. This allowed my team to focus on more productive and interesting projects. We have recently picked up work for the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and have been tasked with creating a Spanish site for them. In addition, we are going to be redesigning the web site for Paula White Ministries. That will be a nice change from the maintenance we have been performing for Joel Osteen, Lakewood Church and TD Jakes.

This weekend we are gathering friends to celebrate my birthday. It’s a week late, but this is the best time we could get everyone together. My 32nd birthday also included a trip to the dermatologist to have some spots examined. It’s pretty depressing to be told, “Oh, these things start showing up as we get older”. I guess it could be worse.
