All About David Pruitt

Age 7This is the short version of my life story. Are you ready? I grew up in very small town of 900 people in Northeast Oklahoma. I had two older brothers and an older sister. I had a pretty typical childhood, I suppose. My parents both worked jobs in a town 15 miles away which left a lot of time for me to get intro trouble. Being the youngest of four, I had to constantly find new and creative ways to survive. If anyone was going to get picked on, punched, put down, dragged behind, beat up and thrown down it was going to be me. I didn’t weigh much at all, so I was a pretty easy target. My siblings were always there to pick on me, but my sister was also there to make sure she was the only one. If anyone else were to pick a fight with me she always came to the rescue. I was pretty good in school, although I was in trouble a lot for doing ornery things. In fact, I was spanked at school every year from first grade through fifth, and most of the time more than once in a school year. It was in the fifth grade and my first male teacher that I wasn’t dragged into the hall. I will never forget Mr. Harris. He was a pretty cool teacher. Puberty was an awkward time as it is with most children. When I was in the sixth grade, my brother was hit by a truck and killed while riding his motorcycle to school. It didn’t really impact me that much at the time, but as I have grown older and became a father myself I realize that my parents are truly amazing for being able to navigate those waters and maintain the leadership of our family. Go Mom and Dad!! Times got pretty crazy when I entered high school. I wasn’t exactly a ladies man, but I did have a lot of friends. I did a lot of things in high school that I wish I hadn’t, but there is one person that I met who impacted my life more than I could have ever imagined.

Audrey at Age 14During my junior year of high school, I enrolled in Home Economics as an elective, so I wouldn’t have to go to Tech School. It was there that I met Audrey Bacon. She didn’t talk much in school, so I didn’t know her that well. She sat by a friend, so I would always make obnoxious comments to try and get a reaction out of her. She thought I was an idiot. My friends told me she had some to our school from a private Christian school, so she was immediately labeled a stuck up, well-to-do prude girl. Over the next several months, she started to take an interest in me. Audrey was only 14 when we met, and I was 16. Once we got to know each other we really hit it off. Audrey became my best friend, and I quickly realized that she was nothing like her label. I am very blessed to have met such a fine woman. Well, anyway, we dated through high school, and the next thing I know Audrey Bacon became Audrey Pruitt. Granted this didn’t happen over night, but this IS an accelerated story. The truth is Audrey and I dated for over 7 years before we got married, and in August 2007 Audrey and I will celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. This year, we realized that both of us have now spent more than half our life together. Isn’t that amazing?

My life story wouldn’t be complete without my children, Alex and Andrew. I will never forget the day my children were born. The miracle of life is truly amazing. They are the light of my life, and I am honored every day the good Lord allows me to wake and spend the day with these amazing boys. Like most proud fathers, I talk a lot about my sons. As you will come to know if you do not already, I spent a lot of time talking about Andrew and Alex on this web site.
